In 1969, Werner A. Schulz founded his eponymous company in Hamburg’s historic Speicherstadt warehouse district and worked tirelessly to establish the service concept that is still central to the company today.

The first printed catalogue, including pictures of a product range that already spanned several hundred products, was published in 1976 – a novelty for the industry.

In 2000, the company moved its headquarters to Rosengarten, a logistically perfect location to the south of the port of Hamburg. From the 10,000m² warehouse, products are shipped all over the world.

In 2011, focus shifted to the future as Werner A. Schulz transferred management of the company to his son Tim, who set about developing WAS Germany in an innovative manner.

In 2014, a modern, 20,000m² logistics hall was built just 1½ kilometres from the previous company headquarters, allowing much more potential and space for further internationalisation.

WAS Germany celebrated its big five-oh in 2019. To mark the anniversary, the family business is getting an image upgrade and, with it, the basis for yet another 50 years of success ‘Where Service Begins’.
